3 Small Business Pitfalls to Avoid

You want to do the best for your business and your team. This includes continually learning and growing as a good leader as well as an entrepreneur. There are so many possible mistakes, and sometimes that can feel overwhelming. What are some of the biggest pitfalls to avoid when running a small business?

A Lack of Passion

You can’t love what you do every second of every day. However, if you don’t have a joy and passion in your new business, it will become rote and stale in your life, and then will not grow as you wish it would. In contrast, your passion can drive your ability to do the work it will take to accomplish your goals. It’s that important! If you are driven with a passion, it doesn’t make the boring bits easier or more interesting, but it does make them more possible and makes it possible for you to accomplish them more quickly.

Poor Client Communication

Excellent communication skills can help you in relationships in general, and that goes doubly for business relationships. 50 percent of all small businesses fail within the first five years because of bad client communication, so it’s important to be able to learn which ways your clients prefer to communicate. Some individuals respond well to emails, and others respond best to things like social media marketing and text messaging. Figuring out what your demographic prefers, and what your clients prefer, is critical to your business.

Not Keeping the Records Straight

If you want to run a successful business, you have to be willing to do, or to finance for others to do, the bits of work that aren’t passion or enjoyment driven. This includes keeping good financial records, especially for tax purposes, not paying attention to your specific marketing demographic, and even things like growing so fast that you can’t keep up with demand. By being willing to assemble a team who can help with these issues, to facilitate your business growing healthily and being self-sustaining.

Nobody can run your business like you can, and that’s a great thing! It’s your passion for your project which keeps you going. Keep practicing good communication, and make sure you’ve got your financial records and marketing working behind the scenes. With a great team to help you and healthy communication skills, you can continue to build happily for a long time.
